Oppo, what should I do about my paint?

Well, my car is full of small bumps and bruises, along with some scratches (rocks, sticks, etc etc.). Now these bumps, I really don't want to repair (only because I'm shit with bondo, and I don't want to sand and fuck up everything else). So I was thinking after seeing some Macco commercials about this 400 dollar special they're doing.

Should I repaint my car? I mean, when I bought my car, I bought it used, and it was Graphite Grey, and I honestly never grew attached to it. I've always liked black or white. Should I get my car repainted at macco? Would they repair those small dents in my car or just paint over them?

My alternative was to go with !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and wrap my entire car with it, however, I don't think matte blue matches with the red mudflaps (which I intend to keep). What do you guys think?

Do not re-paint your car, at least not at a chain like Macco, and especially don't do it in a different color because you'll still have the factory color left on the door jambs and under the hood.

Your best bet is to go to a quality body shop someone near you and have them evaluate the paint and all the defects. A good body shop will tell you if it's worth it to re-paint (in the original color) or to repair all the defects.

If you're set on changing the color, get it wrapped.

And if you're going to get it wrapped, I would consider having a professional do it. Even though it will cost more, it will look like it was painted in a matte finish.

I wouldn't go with Macco, with paint you get what you pay for and a 400$ paint job will be a terrible decision.

Look into Paintless Dent Repair and if you want to change the color, either pay for a reputable shop to do it or go with the vinyl option, I don't think the blue and red should clash.

Never, ever, consider Macco. You get less than what you pay for and their cheapest options will actually make it look worse (won't tape over trim or plastics, no sanding or prep).

There's a certain joy in realising your car is old enough that the condition of the paintwork has no real effect on the value. It's very liberating not to care...

Also, in Trinidad, a macco is someone who looks over your shoulder and offers uninvited advice. I wouldn't let one of them paint your car :)

Paintless Dent Repair, and a good detailer is all you need. Maaco's $400 paint job includes no prep work, and probably the worst paint you could buy. I had a $1000 CRX painted there, for $800 (paid extra for some prep). A $1000 car is all I would take there.

And it's a good color!

Totally disagree with some of the comments. I have a friend that manages a Maaco franchise. You will get what you pay for, so do not go with the lowball job. They do good work, but it will cost you more than $400. If factory paint is decent and you have dents, etc. Get those fixed first. Factory paint is by far the best. If color is your concern, then pay the extra to have it done right. Go to a local car dealer and ask who they use to pop dents and dings. I have watched those guys work and they do amazing stuff.

Your car is sexy as hell. I say you repaint it white. White with black wheels = sexier than hell. Can't suggest any paint shops or anything.

I was thinking white, or at least a matte white (wrapped)

If I get it wrapped, should I buy my own vinyl or should I let them get it? Also, can regular auto body places do this or should I go to a place that does stuff like window tinting and things?

It depends. If you can get the same stuff for cheaper then Ok, but don't get something different than from whoever is doing it because it's cheaper, but consult with whoever is doing it.

Whatever body shop you go to, which should be someone people you know recommend or gets a lot of great reviews, talk to them and see if they know someone. Also Google it for your area, but if the body shop you use recommends someone, which is usually the case, try them first.

And a quick aside, paintless dent repair is usually done by a specialist, but good ones are VERY few and far between. The body shop I use doesn't even do it and they're a huge reputable shop that does a shit load of business, they actually use one guy for it, and that said a lot to me for the skill it takes. The only time I would consider paintless dent repair is if the paint is in perfect condition and it's recommended not to repaint it, otherwise, I would just have the body shop do it.

Hope this helps, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Don't repaint your car. Check out the videos on /Drive that touch on paintless dent repair and detailing to repair scratches. Your car will look much better done this way (even if there's some light scratches left) that with a shitty $400 1 coat enamel paint job from Maaco or a vinyl kit that will loose it's shine quickly and leave a residue on your car.

Put your $400 into dent repair first, and the left over into the best paint-correction detail you can afford.

Late to the discussion here, but have you considered plasti-dip? I know how crappy Mitsu paint is, I actually got lucky when I nailed a deer a few months ago, because the shop repainted my entire front end including the hood. Was really excited about that one lol.
